Kelly Mertz, Esq.

Kelly Mertz, Esq. is an Associate Attorney at Doolan Platt & Setareh, LLP.  She concentrates on neglect and abuse cases arising in nursing home, hospital, assisted living, and home care settings. As an Associate, Kelly is intimately involved with the representation of our clients and their families. Kelly handles multiple aspects of client matters, including the investigation, development, and litigation of claims toward their rightful and just resolution. Prior to her admission to the New York State Bar as an attorney, Kelly worked at Doolan Platt & Setareh (DPS) as an Intake Specialist and a Paralegal. Kelly is a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the National Lawyers Guild. 

Kelly holds a Juris Doctorate from the City University of New York Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from American University in Washington D.C., graduating from both schools cum laude.  As a law student, Kelly assisted survivors of intimate partner violence in immigration matters as a part of the CUNY Family Law Practice Clinic. She has also worked with HIV+ clients in housing and disability discrimination matters, has researched and presented health care “Know Your Rights” workshops for non-citizens, and assisted individuals in completing and submitting their applications for citizenship.

Prior to law school, Kelly’s professional experience included coalition building with community organizations to fill service gaps in the Bronx, health and educational programs & service coordination for low income residents in Brownsville, Brooklyn, maintaining client relationships and new employee training in the medical digital marketing field, and teaching in afterschool and garden programs for youth.

As an attorney at DPS, Kelly brings her passion for protecting the dignity of all individuals to the table on behalf of our clients and their loved ones.  As Kelly has said, “all people deserve quality health care free from harm”, and she is certainly passionate about protecting the rights of those who have been neglected or abused in nursing homes and other health care settings.  

Currently, Kelly resides in Brooklyn and visits her family regularly on Long Island and in NYC. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, spending time in Prospect Park, seeing live music, and traveling.
